Watching new hires try to sharpen a scimitar with a pull-through sharpener
That tool will wreck the curve and you'll lose the draw cut. I learned the hard way at my uncle's shop in Omaha, grinding down a good blade to nothing.

What did your uncle in Omaha say when he saw the ruined blade?

Call a local machine shop first, they can often straighten a bent blade for way less than a replacement costs. My uncle learned that the hard way after he already ordered a new one. Just make sure the metal isn't cracked.

my uncle learned that the hard way after he already ordered a new one" honestly that's exactly what I would have done before. I used to think you just had to replace anything bent or broken without even thinking twice. But hearing stuff like this changed my mind for sure. Now I get that machine shops can actually fix this kind of stuff for way less money and it works just as good. It's smarter to check with them first before dropping cash on a whole new blade.
