Just realized my old shop teacher was right about sharpening my card scraper
I was complaining to a guy named Ray at the lumber yard in Dayton last week about burning through sandpaper, and he asked me one question: when did I last file the edge on my card scraper? I hadn't touched it in about 8 months, and after 5 minutes with a file and a burnisher, my finish went from fuzzy to glass smooth. So how often are you all touching up your scrapers, once a week or after every big job?
Man this hits home. Went like 6 months without touching mine and couldn't figure out why my finish looked like crap, felt like an idiot once I finally filed it. Now I hit it with the burnisher every few jobs or whenever it stops pulling those nice little shavings instead of dust.
