Update: I chose to fish a line through a finished wall in a 1920s house last month instead of running it outside.

Everyone said to go outside to avoid the plaster, but after 3 hours of careful drilling and a flexible bit, I got a clean interior run that the homeowner loved, so when did exterior runs become the only 'right' way?

Man, that reminds me of my uncle's old place. He had this gorgeous original trim in every room, real thick stuff from the 30s. A contractor told him the only way to add wiring was to tear it all out and replace it. He found this retired electrician who spent a whole week fishing wires with these long, skinny tools he made himself. Saved every inch of that trim. Sometimes the "right" way is just the way that doesn't wreck the house.

Okay but the look on someone's face when you save their original plaster is totally worth the extra time. @the_ruby, it sounds insane until you've done it a few times and your arms feel like jelly from holding that drill at a weird angle for hours. My own house has more patches than original wall at this point from my learning curve. Sometimes the best way is the one that leaves the history intact, even if it means you get a little creative.

You drilled through a finished wall? That’s insane.
