Pro tip: A guy at a campsite in the Adirondacks showed me how to fix a busted tent pole with a soda can.
He cut a strip from a can and used it as a splint, securing it with duct tape. Has anyone else had to do a field repair like that, and what did you use?

Saw a buddy use a pine branch and zip ties once.

Pine sap makes those zip ties permanent.

Actually, pine sap is pretty bad for that. It gets brittle when it dries out and cracks. A proper epoxy resin would hold way better long term. The sap might work for a few months in the sun, but then it just flakes off.
