Paid a broker $250 deposit to ship my Civic from Denver to Seattle, truck never showed
I booked with a broker back in April and they wanted a $250 deposit up front to lock in my pickup date. The truck was supposed to get my Civic in Denver on a Tuesday, I took the day off work, and nobody came. Called the broker 6 times over 9 days and got nothing but "the driver is running behind" and then they just stopped answering. I ended up paying a different company $1,100 to actually get the car to Seattle, so I ate the $250 and a wasted vacation day. Has anyone here ever gotten a deposit back from a broker, or is that money just gone for good?

That Tuesday off work stings more than the $250 if you ask me. So you basically paid $250 for the privilege of sitting by your phone all day while some guy in an office somewhere played the "driver is running behind" tape on loop. The broker probably pocketed your deposit and never even posted the load. Those deposits are usually gone unless you paid by credit card, and even then you have to fight it and win the chargeback. Call your card company and dispute it if you can, that is the only shot most people get.
