Switched from covered to open transport and saved $400 on a cross-country move
I was dead set on getting covered transport for my 2018 Honda Accord when I moved from Austin to Portland last month. Everyone on here kept saying covered was safer, so I figured it was the only way to go. But after getting quotes ranging from $1,800 to $2,200, I started second-guessing myself. Then I talked to this older guy at a local car meet who ships project cars all the time. He told me open transport is fine for regular daily drivers, especially if you don't mind a little road grime. I tried it with a company called Montway (not sponsored or anything) and paid $1,350 total. The car arrived with some dust but no scratches or dents, and I saved enough to cover a weekend trip. Has anyone else tried open carrier after thinking you needed covered, or am I the only one who was overthinking this?
