People keep booking open transport for their classic cars and it makes no sense

I sell a lot of used cars on the side and the last 3 buyers all insisted on open carriers to save $400, then each one had rock chips by the time it hit Ohio. You can buy a roll of plastic wrap for 20 bucks and cover the front bumper yourself, it saves you the hassle of a claim. Why risk a 30k car over a few hundred when enclosed is right there?

Those buyers in Ohio probably never checked the paint before they signed, right? I've seen guys spend an hour polishing a fender and then slap it on an open deck just to save what amounts to a dinner out. My last enclosed quote was $950 vs $580 on open, but the buyer's car was a '67 Mustang with original lacquer. He still tried to haggle me down to open until I showed him a photo of a buddy's Audi with a cracked windshield from a kicked-up stone. Do you actually think these folks understand how fast rocks fly at 70 mph, or are they just assuming it's bad luck?

People really just see a number and think open deck is the same ride, @henry_moore55. Rocks don't care about your budget, they fly at 70mph and hit hard. I'd bet most buyers just never saw the damage up close until it's too late, and by then the carrier's gone. It's not bad luck, it's a gamble they don't know they're taking. Saving $370 sounds good until you're repainting a whole panel.
