Two cousins, one Beijing lunch, totally different takes on the same city

Met up with my cousin in Beijing last month, she moved there for a tech job in Chaoyang. Over dumplings near Gulou, she was all about the startups and late night hotpot, calling it the most exciting place she's lived. Meanwhile her roommate, who grew up in a hutong, said she can't wait to save 200k RMB and move back to Chengdu for a slower pace. Has anyone else seen this split between people who move to China's big cities and locals who feel priced out?

200k RMB is like 28 grand, that's not exactly a fortune to be stuck in a city over. Sounds like she just wants a change of scenery, not some deep cultural crisis.
