Two hours down the drain because of a dull insert I should have swapped first thing

Spent 45 minutes chasing chatter on a 304 stainless part before I finally checked the insert and it was straight up chipped, felt like an idiot for not catching it sooner.

Three buck chuck from the grocery store is what I grabbed one time when I ran out of my usual stuff and it turned my whole chuck roast into shoe leather. That was a long Sunday dinner. Now I look at insert edges like I look at wine labels, I guess. You beat yourself up for not noticing sooner but really it's just one of those things that sneaks up on you when you're in the zone. On the bright side, next time you'll probably check that edge first thing.

Ha, I gotta push back on that a little @kim_nelson. I get what you're saying about cheap wine but a bad insert edge is way more predictable than a bad bottle of wine. Wine can surprise you, good or bad. A dull insert just sits there being dull all day long. I think people give themselves way too much credit for catching it next time, like somehow that mistake was a learning experience. Nope, you just got distracted and paid the price, plain and simple.
