Hit 1000 hours underwater last week and it changed my mind about dry suits

The boots comparison is spot on @king.kevin. I actually just read a study about how neoprene compression starts affecting buoyancy control around 500 hours, so by 1000 your whole kit feels broken in. It's like the suit finally stops fighting you and starts working with you. That makes the stiffness worth dealing with.

Man that's wild. 1000 hours is serious commitment. I get what you mean about dry suits though. They feel like a prison at first, all stiff and awkward. But after enough time you realize they're what let you stay out there when the water gets mean. The freedom comes from not having to cut your dives short because you're shivering. It's like breaking in a pair of boots, takes forever but then they're part of you.
