Best week I've had in a while fixing a tricky server issue in Richmond

Last Tuesday I got a call about a file server that kept dropping connections at a small law firm in Richmond. Turned out to be a bad NIC on the motherboard after three hours of testing cables and switches. Felt great to finally swap in a PCIe network card and watch everything come back up stable. Anyone else ever spend way too long chasing a simple hardware fault?

Nah, I went straight to hardware - been burned by bad NICs before, @henrygrant. Event logs are great but sometimes you just gotta trust your gut and start swapping parts.

Three hours for a bad NIC... did you check the event logs before diving into the cable testing? I've had that exact same issue twice now, and both times the system logs showed a driver timeout error about twenty minutes before the drop. Would have saved me an hour of swapping patch cables the first time. Just curious if you caught that or went straight for the physical hardware like I usually do.
