Had to pick between a used Fluke meter or a cheap knockoff on Amazon
Went with the Fluke for $80 from some guy on Craigslist, and it turned out to be a counterfeit that reads voltage wrong by like 10 volts. Anyone else get burned on fake test gear before?

Honestly I kinda disagree man. $80 for a used Fluke that's fake is a bummer, but at least you found out quick before it caused real problems. A cheap Amazon knockoff for $20 woulda burned you just the same and probably felt even worse.

$80 for a "Fluke" that reads 10 volts off is rough, I really feel for you. I got burned on a supposed Klein multimeter from eBay that showed 12V on a dead 9V battery. It sucks how these fakes look so convincing but are totally useless for actual work.
