Learned the hard way that thermal paste isn't "more is better"
I used to glob thermal paste on like I was frosting a cake. CPUs ran fine, temps were okay. Then I rebuilt a buddy's gaming rig last month and decided to check my old one. Pulled the cooler off and there was paste squeezed out all over the socket pins. Had to spend 45 minutes with alcohol and a toothbrush cleaning it up. Noticed my temps dropped about 8 degrees after I put a pea-sized amount on instead. Has anyone else had a close call with too much paste?

Learned that lesson the messy way too, always stick with a pea sized dot now.

Exactly @grant728, that pea size rule is no joke. I still remember the night I used a whole dab of that 1,000mg THC balm on my lower back before a shift. Woke up three hours later feeling like my spine was floating away from the rest of my body. Ended up having to call out of work and just laid there watching the ceiling breathe for a solid six hours.
