PSA: a client in Tacoma handed me a laptop with a swollen battery and said her old tech told her it was "just running warm"
She brought it in last Tuesday because the trackpad had started bulging, and the bottom case was lifted about a quarter inch off the chassis. I popped it open and found a battery that had clearly been puffing up for weeks, sitting right above the board with no shielding. How many of you are seeing clients who got told heat is normal, and what do you say to them when they think you are just upselling a repair?
Had a lady last month whose battery was so swollen it cracked her trackpad from underneath, and she swore the last guy said the warm palm rest was just how that model runs. I always show them the battery sitting on a flat table like a little seesaw and that shuts down the upselling talk fast.
