Serious question, that advice about using thermal paste "pea size" is wrong sometimes?
So I had this guy on a YouTube comment section swear up and down that the pea method was the only way for Ryzen chips. I tried it on a 5600X build last month and my temps were hitting 85C under load. Redid it with a spread method using a little plastic card and now I'm at 72C max. Did I just get unlucky with the pea or is that advice just not universal? Anyone else have a specific CPU that didn't like the pea method?

You ever try the "line" method? I had the same problem with my 3700X. Pea gave me hot spots on one side of the die no matter what. I switched to a thin line down the middle, kind of like a hot dog bun style, and my temps dropped 10 degrees easy. The pea might work fine on smaller chips but on these bigger Ryzen ones the paste doesn't spread even every time. I think it depends on your cooler mount pressure too, if you have a big air cooler the pea can get squished to one side before it spreads right.

Wait, so you're telling me the "pea" method is basically the Nickleback of thermal paste advice - everyone says it's fine but deep down they know it's trash? I tried the pea on my old 1700X and got thermal throttled playing Solitaire of all things.
