Feeding my family broke my family's rule about money

I grew up in a home where talking about salaries was basically a crime, we just never did it. Last year my sister asked for help with her rent and I told her exactly what I make at the hardware store, $18.50 an hour, and suddenly she got all weird and said I was bragging. Now she barely talks to me, and I'm wondering if openness about money is actually worse than keeping it secret in some families, has anyone else burned a relationship that way?
