Just realized my neighbor in Boise had no idea why I couldn't talk about my aunt's funeral arrangements at the block party last month.

That's just how some families are. You can't expect everyone to get your private traditions.

Yeah, totally. My family has this rule about not saying a baby's name out loud before the first birthday party. We had to call my cousin's kid "the little one" for a whole year at family stuff, and people at work thought it was the weirdest thing. You just have to roll with it.
