Spent an afternoon talking about death rituals at my uncle's dinner table in Seoul and nobody got mad

I brought up how different cultures handle funeral prep, like Tibetan sky burials vs American embalming, and my super traditional aunt actually asked me questions instead of changing the subject, so has anyone else had a taboo topic actually bring a family closer instead of making things awkward?
