Debate: Was dropping $80 on that 'mastering' plugin really worth it or just hype?
I bought a fancy limiter plugin last month claiming it would fix my muddy mixes, but my track still sounds flat compared to just using free stock tools. Did I waste my money or do I just not know how to use it right? Anyone else feel tricked by these big promises?

Dropping $80 on a limiter is like buying a fancy spatula and expecting it to flip the pancakes for you. The real magic is in the mix before it even hits the limiter, but nobody wants to hear that when there's a shiny new toy to blame. My $20 freebie limiter works fine once I stopped expecting it to be a miracle worker. At least now you got a cool button to stare at while your track still sounds like it was recorded in a sock drawer.

Right? @cameron_owens49 nailed it. I spent way too long chasing the perfect limiter only to realize my mix was the real problem. Getting the levels balanced before anything hits the master chain is way more important than what brand of clipping you throw on at the end. I have this old free limiter that does the job fine as long as I don't ask it to fix a train wreck. People forget the tool is only as good as the hands using it, and no $80 button is gonna teach you how to mix.
