Gave up my hammer drill for an SDS after one basement job
I spent 2 days with a regular hammer drill putting 20 anchors into poured concrete in my Chicago basement. Switched to a borrowed SDS Plus from my neighbor and it took under 2 hours for the same holes. The rotary action makes all the difference, no more fighting the bit. Anyone else made the jump and wonder why they waited so long?
Two days versus two hours is the kind of math that makes you want to apologize to your old drill. Regular hammer drills are fine for drywall anchors and occasional small stuff, but they are basically a toy once you hit real concrete. Borrowing from the neighbor was the smartest tool move you made all week.
