Hit 1000 screws from one box and realized I have a problem
So I was cleaning out the garage last Saturday and found the empty box from the 5 pound bucket of 2 inch deck screws I bought back in March. I counted the little divider cups I use to sort them and it came to exactly 1000 screws used since spring. That number hit me hard because it means I've built the whole back fence, fixed the sagging gate, and redid my neighbor's porch steps without even thinking about it. My wife said it's just a number but I know that's 1000 times I picked up the driver and didn't strip a head. Now I'm wondering if I should switch to those star drive ones before I start the shed next month. Anyone else keep track of stuff like this or am I just weird about it?
Man, 1000 screws is a lot but it sounds like you earned every one of them. I went through the same thing last year when I built raised beds and a chicken coop, and I started writing the count on the lid of each new box so I would not lose track. @milar46 is right that you are just actually building stuff, so I would not call it weird at all. What helped me was switching to one type of screw for everything, so I quit digging through mixed buckets and stripping heads. Star drive is worth it if your hands get tired from cam-out on long days. For the shed I would say pick one drive and buy a big box, it keeps the whole job simple.
