Just realized how much caulk I wasted until I tried the tape trick

I was sealing my baseboards in the kitchen last week and kept making a mess with the caulk. Smearing it everywhere, wiping it off, taking forever. I saw a tip online to put painter's tape on both sides of the seam before you caulk. Tried it on a 10 foot run of trim and it came out perfect, no cleanup. Has anyone else found a simple trick like that that saved you a ton of time?

Used to think tape was just extra work but damn it really is a game changer.

Back in 2019 I tried using duct tape on a stubborn crack in my old hockey stick and it lasted longer than any epoxy I ever used. That got me into experimenting with different tapes for all kinds of stuff around the house and car. The 3M stuff is pricy but the way it holds up on outdoor gear is night and day compared to the cheap rolls. I even use it now to reinforce the seals on my cooler and it stays put even in the rain. One roll has saved me from buying new stuff way too many times to count.
