My neighbor's deck collapse in Toledo made me rethink every fastener I use

I was helping him clear the wreckage after a heavy rain last spring, and we found the ledger board was only held on with 3-inch nails instead of proper lag bolts. Now I check every single connection point with a torque wrench before I call a project done. How many of you actually follow the full hardware specs from the building code, or do you just go with what 'feels' strong enough?

Seriously... that torque wrench is a lifesaver. I found a whole row of loose bolts on my own deck last month, just from seasonal shifting.
