Spent 3 hours patching drywall holes the wrong way until a trick finally clicked
I kept trying to fill small nail holes with one thick glob of spackle and sanding it flat. Always ended up with bubbles or a bump. Then I tried thin coats, like 3 or 4, letting each dry for 20 minutes before the next. Finally got a smooth finish on my living room wall in Portland. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand of lightweight spackle?

Yeah but Portland humidity is a factor too, that thick glob method always trapped moisture for me. Thin coats are the way, especially with the lightweight stuff, it dries way faster. I've been using the DAP DryDex and it's fine, just gotta make sure you're not pressing too hard with the putty knife or it'll bubble up on you.

Ugh, the bubbling is the worst.
