TIL I was drilling pilot holes way too shallow for years
I was hanging some heavy shelves in my garage last month and kept stripping screws. My buddy came over and saw me drilling maybe a quarter inch deep into a 2x4. He was like 'you need to go deeper than the screw threads or it's pointless.' So I tried drilling an inch deep and everything went in smooth for once. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized a basic step you skipped was messing up all your projects?

Same here. Game changer once you match bit depth to screw length.

Started drilling all the way to the back of my screw threads after that same issue... made a huge difference on my deck project.
