I finally snapped the handle on my favorite shovel last weekend

I was breaking up some frozen dirt behind the garage Saturday morning and the handle just cracked right at the grip. It was an old wooden one my dad gave me like 15 years ago, you know, the kind with some character. I ended up duct taping it just to finish the job and now I'm looking at fiberglass replacements at Home Depot. Has anyone else had luck with those composite handles holding up in cold weather?

Think about heating the metal ferrule next time so the wood expands and doesn't crack.
