Just realized how long it took me to replace a simple mailbox after a snow plow hit it
My mailbox got smashed by a plow back in February up in New Hampshire, and I figured I'd just grab a new one from Home Depot in an afternoon... but finding a post that fit the hole without digging everything up took me three separate trips over two months. Finally got the right size last Saturday, but the whole job only took 45 minutes once I had the parts. Anybody else get stuck on a simple fix that dragged out way longer than it should have?

Did you end up having to cut the new post down to size? I spent an hour shaving off a quarter inch of a 4x4 with a hand plane because I was too stubborn to just buy the shorter one.

Yeah, that's exactly how it goes. Finding the right size post without having to re-dig the whole hole is a pain. Next time just measure the inside of the mounting bracket before you go, saves you that third trip.
