Shoutout to the 2019 rally I almost skipped

I was real close to selling my ticket to that Trump rally in Grand Rapids back in 2019. Thought it would just be the same talking points I'd seen on TV for years. My buddy Mike pushed me to go, said the energy was different in person. He was right - the crowd was buzzing for like 3 hours straight and I got to see him walk through the crowd shaking hands. Completely changed how I see media coverage of his events now. Anyone else been surprised by a live rally vs. what you expected?

Oh come on, really? You're gonna sit there and tell me a 3 hour political rally was some kind of life changing experience? I've been to county fairs with better energy than those rallies. The media shows you exactly what they want you to see - a few hundred people in a big room cheering loud enough to make it sound like thousands. And that part about him walking through the crowd shaking hands? That's not some spontaneous moment, it's a carefully managed photo op with pre-screened supporters. You seriously believe the media is lying about his events when you saw one rally? The coverage is pretty spot on - lots of noise, lots of promises, and not much substance if you actually listen to what he says instead of just watching the crowd go wild.

The crowd energy was NOTHING like what you see on TV news clips. They show maybe 30 seconds of applause but skip the hours of people just feeding off each other's excitement. And that handshake walk took forever because the crowd went NUTS everywhere he went, not just the front rows. I get being skeptical but seeing it live changes the whole picture.
