Spent $80 on a laser level for a Reno job and it was a total game changer

Had to hang board on a sloped ceiling in an old house. My old chalk line was a nightmare. Bought a DeWalt cross-line laser. Set it up in five minutes and had perfect lines across the whole room. What's the best tool purchase you've made under a hundred bucks?

Why do the right tools feel like a cheat code sometimes?

Oh man, I gotta gently push back on calling it a "cheat code" though. Cheat codes are like skipping the work entirely, but having the right tool just means you're not wasting time fighting against bad equipment. Like, if you're using a cheap tape measure that's bent or the hook is loose, you're fighting the tool the whole time. A proper one just lets you get the measurement right the first try. It's not a cheat, it's just not shooting yourself in the foot before you even start.

Man, I saw a video once where a guy called the right tool a "force multiplier" and that stuck with me. It's not cheating, it's just letting your brain focus on the work instead of fighting with bad lines or measurements. My sub-hundred dollar hero is a good quality speed square. That thing has saved me from so many stupid mistakes on cuts.
