Had to choose between a $700 visa renewal or a $200 flight to nowhere

Back when I was in Nairobi on an expired permit, my buddy told me to just fly to Uganda for the weekend and come back fresh with a new stamp. I was broke so I went for the cheap option. Got stopped at JKIA, interrogated for 4 hours, and they sent me home with a 30 day notice. Should've just paid for the renewal. Anyone else gamble on a cheap fix and lose big?

Took a $50 bribe to skip a line once, ended up paying $200.

$200 seems like a pretty cheap lesson honestly. @wood.john
