Spent 3 years optimizing product photos at $15 each before realizing I was the problem

I used to spend hours editing every single product shot for my Shopify store, tweaking colors and removing shadows. Then a customer from Austin emailed me last month saying they liked the "vintage blur" on one image - it was just a bad focus from my cheap camera. I realized all that editing was covering up the real issue: I was using a $30 desk lamp instead of just buying a $200 softbox kit. Has anyone else wasted money on editing tools before fixing their actual setup?

Ha, that "vintage blur" comment is gold. I spent a year paying someone to remove dust spots from my photos before I realized I just needed to clean my lens with a $5 cloth. Fixing the root problem always beats polishing the mess. My advice is do the cheap test first before buying anything fancy.
