Back in 2005 I picked a fixer-upper over a brand new build
Went with a 1950s bungalow in Garneau instead of a new duplex in the burbs. Spent $15k on knob and tube replacement first year. But I love the hardwood floors and original tile. Anyone else take the old route and regret it or not?

Knob and tube is the worst. Get a whole house surge protector next.

Paid $12k to have knob and tube ripped out of my 1920s place. Found out the hard way when my toaster tripped the whole block. Hardwood floors are nice but not when you're also paying for a new panel and wiring while your buddy in his vinyl sided duplex has central AC.
