You said it saved 3 hours on a duplex floor plan, that's the kind of math that actually makes sense. I've been using a laser measure for about two years now and I won't go back to a tape for anything over like 15 feet. The big thing people mess up is they buy the cheap $20 one and it's useless in sunlight, the beam just disappears. You gotta spend at least $40-$50 to get one with a decent bright laser and a good range. Another tip is to use the continuous measurement mode if yours has it, you just walk around the room and it keeps updating, way faster than clicking the button each time.

That's a good point about the cheap ones being useless in sunlight, I hadn't thought of that. Does the continuous mode work okay when you're measuring a weird shaped room, or does it get confused?

Oh man the continuous mode is actually perfect for weird shaped rooms. I measured a L-shaped living room with a weird angled wall last week and it handled it just fine, you just gotta move slow around the corners so it catches everything. The trick is to point it at the target wall not at the floor or ceiling or it'll bounce around. It does get a little funny if you're in a really cluttered room with boxes and stuff in the way but thats more of a user error thing. Honestly once you get the hang of it you won't go back to the button clicking method for sure.
