Vent: My old stand grinder's wheel guard sheared off mid-job yesterday

It happened while I was shaping a shoe for a draft horse, and the whole wheel just exploded. Anyone know a good, heavy-duty replacement brand that can handle daily use?

Yikes, that's the stuff of nightmares. Honestly, when a guard fails like that, I'd be looking at the whole machine, not just the brand of wheel. A cast guard shouldn't just shear. That points to metal fatigue or a flaw you can't see. For daily heavy work, you might be better off replacing the whole grinder with something industrial, like from Baldor or even a used Dayton. Just slapping a new wheel on a shaky frame is asking for trouble.

Oh man, you're not wrong. That's a full-on "abandon ship" moment. Seeing a guard snap is like watching the bumper fall off your car while you're just driving to the store. At that point, you gotta wonder what ELSE is held together by hopes and prayers. Slapping a new wheel on there is basically trusting your face to duct tape.
