Got told my draping looked like a collapsed tent
A professor at FIT pulled me aside after a critique and said my pleats were fighting each other. She showed me how removing two pleats from the front panel made the whole dress fall smoother. Has anyone else had a teacher give feedback that completely changed their approach to construction?

Always thought more fabric meant more control, but that professor proved less draping actually gives you way better movement.

That professor must not work with heavy canvas or denim where you need the extra structure just to keep the seams from pulling apart. More fabric gives you more to work with when you're dialing in a crisp silhouette or adding useful pockets.
