Showerthought: I accidentally fixed a puckering seam by ironing it before I sewed it.

I was making a linen skirt and the side seam kept bunching up no matter how I pinned it. Out of frustration, I pressed the seam allowance flat with a hot iron before running it through the machine, and it went through perfectly smooth. Has anyone else tried this trick for tricky fabrics?

It's basically preemptive ironing for the machine.

Preemptive ironing is a perfect way to put it. We spend all this time cleaning up data just so the algorithm doesn't get confused. It's boring work but someone has to do it. The machine gets all the credit for being smart when we did the hard part first.

More like letting the machine do its actual job.
