Heard a customer at the market say 'real florists only use local flowers'
That got me thinking, is it better to push the local angle hard, or is it okay to use imported blooms for variety? I had a bride last month who specifically wanted proteas, which I had to source from overseas. What's your shop's policy on this?

Wait, you had to get proteas from overseas? That must have cost a fortune just for shipping. I can't imagine the markup you had to add just to make that work.

Forget the markup, how did they even survive the trip? Those things wilt if you look at them wrong.

Remember when shipping costs were just a line item and not the main event. Had a client once insist on tulips from Holland for a late spring wedding, which was like trying to get snow in July locally. The freight bill was more than the flowers themselves, and they showed up looking pretty sad after three days in a plane. We ended up using local peonies and just told her they were a special Dutch hybrid.
