I finally bought a big bag of rice and it changed my whole food budget

I mean, I always thought rice was just a side dish, but I spent about $8 on a 20-pound bag a month ago. I've been using it as the base for almost every dinner, adding whatever cheap veggies and a bit of protein I have. It's crazy how far it stretches. I made a huge pot of fried rice with leftover chicken and frozen peas that fed me for three days. Has anyone else found one cheap thing that became their kitchen staple?

For years, I saw those stick on tile kits and rolled my eyes. I figured they would look fake, peel off in a week, and be a total waste of money. But last month, I needed a quick fix for my rental's kitchen in Cincinnati and decided to try a box from a hardware store. I spent about $80 and an afternoon carefully putting it up. The key was cleaning the wall with rubbing alcohol first. It's been up for six weeks now, through steam and cleaning, and it hasn't budged. The pattern looks way more real than I expected, and it completely changed the room. I still think real tile is better for a forever home, but for a rental or a budget makeover, it's a solid option. Has anyone else had a good experience with these, or did yours fail after a while?

Rant: The old coal forge in my dad's barn is just sitting there now

Last week I was cleaning out that barn in Springfield, and I fired up the old coal forge just to see if it still worked. Three years ago, I was using it every day to make shoes for a big draft horse farm. Now, most of the guys I know have switched to propane rigs for their trucks. It's a lot cleaner and faster, but I miss the smell and the heat from that old thing. Anyone still running a coal setup for their regular work, or is it all gas now?

Hot take: I finally gave up on my old wire stripper after a job in Savannah last Tuesday.

I was doing a retrofit in a 100 year old house, and the old cloth wiring was a mess. My go-to stripper kept nicking the copper, which meant extra time splicing. The homeowner saw me struggling and handed me his Klein Kurve stripper. It went through that old insulation like butter and didn't leave a mark. I ordered one that night. Vent: I tracked my phone's location data for a year and the pattern freaked me out.

I got curious after a podcast talked about data collection, so I downloaded my Google location history from January to December last year. I saw I visited a specific coffee shop downtown 47 times. The weird part is, for two weeks in October when I was out of town, my phone's location pinged from a cell tower near that same shop every single morning at 7:15 AM. My phone was in a drawer at my sister's house 200 miles away. I know it's probably just a tower glitch or bad data, but it makes you wonder what else in that log is wrong. Has anyone else dug into their own data and found stuff that just doesn't line up?

My old 12mm impact socket finally gave out on a stubborn injector bolt

It was on a 6.7 Powerstroke last Friday, and the socket just split right down the side when I leaned into it. I had to drive 20 minutes to the parts store to grab a new one, which killed my rhythm. What's the most reliable brand you guys use for impact sockets that take a real beating?
