Showerthought: Old school putty jobs seem to outlast today's sealants. What gives?

I was fixing a window from the 70s, and the old putty was still holding strong. Now, I use modern sealants, but they crack after a few years. Back then, we took our time with the knife, now everything is rushed for speed. Is it the product or how we apply it these days? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Everything's rushed now? No surprise sealants don't last.

My local hardware store used to carry three brands of caulk, now it's just one quick-dry type. Honestly, it feels like every company is cutting corners to save a few minutes. Tbh, we're all paying for it later when stuff falls apart.

Exactly, rushing means we use cheaper products designed to set fast, not last long. Have we traded quality for convenience?
