Overnight work schedule turned my meal prep into a survival strategy

Starting graveyard shifts made my usual lunchbox meals feel utterly wrong at midnight. I discovered that focusing on proteins and complex carbs sustains energy through the dark hours. Now, I prep individual portions of chili and roasted vegetables every Sunday. What are your go-to recipes for staying fueled when the world is asleep?

Seriously, nailing the protein and complex carbs is the only way to function. You have to break your "lunch" into two smaller portions, though. Eating a full container of chili at 2 AM will crash you harder than the daylight. I keep hard boiled eggs and a handful of nuts for around 4 AM when the real drain hits. It's a smaller protein punch that doesn't make you sluggish, just keeps the engine idling until you can crash.

4 AM nuts and eggs, because daylight crashes aren't dramatic enough?

Everyone's different, but slamming a big meal at 2 AM keeps me going till sunrise. All those tiny snacks just make me hangry and distracted, no cap.
