Got charged $75 for a broken headlight cover in Fairbanks last week
I was parked at the Fred Meyer lot in Fairbanks getting some rest before heading north, and when I came back someone had cracked my passenger side headlight cover. No note, nothing. I had to stop at a shop in North Pole and they wanted $75 just for the plastic cover piece, not even the whole assembly. Has anyone else had trouble finding cheap replacement parts for older rigs up here?

Dang, $75 for just a cover sounds steep. I've had good luck hitting up the junkyards in Fairbanks or even checking Facebook Marketplace for parts rigs you can pull from. Might save you a chunk compared to a shop.

Hold on, @jaken23. Did you say $75 for just the cover? That's insane. I bought a whole truck once from a guy in North Pole for two hundred bucks and it had a perfectly good cap on it that I ended up selling for fifty. You can definitely find a better deal than that on Marketplace if you keep looking.

Gotta say I was totally on the opposite side of this before. I always thought paying a shop was the only way to get something decent but you guys are making a solid case. Never even thought to check a junkyard in Fairbanks for a cap I just assumed they'd be picked clean. Might have to waste a Saturday afternoon poking around there now and save myself some cash.
