Am I the only one who thinks the 'ask anything' rule just makes people ask dumber questions?

Last week in a thread about local politics, someone asked how to boil an egg, and the mods said it was fine because 'anything' means anything. Has anyone else seen the quality of questions drop since that became the official stance?

My group just banned off-topic stuff, worked for us. @taylorpatel gets it.

Just saw someone ask for the best way to fold a fitted sheet in a thread about the housing crisis. I mean, sure, anything means anything, but maybe we could at least pretend the questions need to have a pulse. Next we'll get tips on removing ketchup stains during a debate about tax reform.

Reminds me of a town hall meeting where a guy spent ten minutes asking about the proper mulch depth for azaleas while the sewer bond issue was on the floor. The moderator just kept nodding, saying "that's a valid concern for your garden," while the rest of us watched the clock run out. Sometimes people just latch onto the one thing they feel they can actually fix.
