Took me 3 weekends to realize my toilet was leaking because of a $2 wax ring
I kept thinking it was the supply line or the tank bolts, so I replaced both and spent hours mopping the floor before a plumber friend stopped by and pointed at the wax ring in two seconds has anyone else spent way too long chasing a tiny cheap fix like this?

Spent a whole day swapping out water valves once before realizing the leak was just a loose shower head.

Wait, but isn't it kind of better to be safe than sorry? I'd rather spend a day on valves and find out it was something minor than ignore a tiny leak and come home to a flooded basement a month later (which happened to my cousin, nightmare). A loose shower head is basically harmless, you know? You just tighten it by hand. But a bad valve can burst at 2am and ruin your drywall. So maybe your day wasn't wasted, it was just insurance against a much bigger problem. I say give yourself a break, you did the right thing even if it felt silly after.
