Learned something about sensory overload from my 8 year old nephew last Tuesday

He was at my place after school and started covering his ears when my fridge compressor kicked on. I never even notice that sound. He said it felt like a drill in his head. Made me wonder how many small sounds I just block out that other people can't. Does anyone else have a specific noise that gets them like that?

Teeth grinding noises. Makes my skin crawl instantly. Never really thought about how others tune that stuff out.

Man my teeth grinding habit is so bad my dentist literally gave me a custom mouthguard and told me "you're gonna wear down your teeth by 40." That sound is awful though, I physically cringe when I hear someone else doing it at night. Guess I'm just lucky I can't hear myself doing it when I'm asleep or I'd probably never get any rest. Maybe that's why my roommate moved out so fast, dude said he heard weird scraping sounds through the wall at 3 AM. Least I can't gross myself out with my own noises, silver linings and all.
