I used to skip making my own nails until a fence job
I always thought store bought nails were fine for quick fixes. My backyard fence started leaning, and the hardware store had none that fit right. So I fired up the forge and pounded out some simple square nails from old rebar. Shaping each one took a bit, but they held the posts rock solid. Now the fence is sturdier than it ever was with factory nails. I get why custom sizing matters for repairs around the house. Doing it myself just makes more sense now.

Exactly! I keep seeing people over-engineer simple fixes these days.
