The $40 EEG headband I mocked now reads my moods better than I can

I spent 6 months laughing at people wearing consumer EEG gear, figured it was all hype from the Indiegogo days. Then my therapist suggested I track my focus levels during our sessions after I kept saying I felt 'fine' while failing at work. The device caught my stress spikes 20 minutes before I felt them, so now I question whether my own feelings are even the reliable signal here. Has anyone else found their introspection was the last thing to catch up to what the hardware shows?

Did the lag between what your body knows and what your brain admits ever feel like the biggest lie you tell yourself? I used to roll my eyes at this stuff too, figured it was just rich people buying gadgets to feel productive. But I tried a cheaper version last month for a sleep study, and it caught my REM cycles way before I woke up feeling tired. Honestly, it made me realize my own “introspection” was basically me guessing while the hardware had receipts.

Did you catch that study about how people misjudge their own sleep quality by half, @lily97?
