My sister told me I was budgeting all wrong and she had a point

Honestly, I used to track every penny into spreadsheets and got mad if I went over. My sister said I was too strict and that made me give up after a few months. She suggested I just set one big fun money category and let myself blow it however I wanted. After trying it for 3 months in Portland, I actually stuck with the budget and saved more. Has anyone else found that loosening up helped you stay on track?

Yo, that totally makes sense. It's like how people who try too hard to be healthy end up binging on junk food because they feel deprived. Giving yourself permission to mess up a little usually means you don't actually mess up as much in the long run.

Yep, loosening up is the key. Weird how giving yourself permission to spend actually helps you save.
