PSA: Stop using pocket holes for your face frames, it's a weak joint

I've seen three jobs in the last year where the frames failed because of seasonal wood movement, and it's always that method. What's your go-to for a strong, lasting frame instead?

What do you mean they failed, like the wood actually split? That's rough... I switched to just gluing and nailing the frames on with a brad nailer. The glue does all the work honestly, and the nails just hold it while it dries. It's been solid for years now, even in my old house where the humidity changes a lot. I wouldn't go back to pocket screws for that after seeing a few pulls come loose myself.

Glue and brads is fine as long as the joint isn't bearing any real load.
