Remember when you had to hand write all your tool offsets?
I was training a new guy, Mike, at our old shop in Toledo about eight years ago, and he watched me punch in numbers for twenty minutes before saying 'This feels like doing math homework on the machine.' We got the job done, but man, that simple comment made me realize how much time we wasted before touch probes. Do you still run any machines where you have to do everything manually, or is it all digital now?

Mike's math homework line is dead on. You're right about the time saved, but I have to point out that touch probes were around long before eight years ago. We had them on our CNCs back in the late 90s. Maybe your old shop in Toledo was just behind the curve on that tech. I still see a few manual lathes kicking around for simple repair work, but everything for production has been digital for a long time.

Late 90s probes, @jesse773? That's still digital, not manual.
