Why does nobody talk about how expensive online coding bootcamps really are

I dropped $2,500 on a 12 week JavaScript bootcamp last summer and I honestly think it was a waste. Everyone online hypes these things up like they are the only way to learn but nobody tells you that you still have to spend another $50 a month on practice sites and cloud servers just to keep up with the homework. The instructors moved way too fast for a beginner and I spent more time googling basic stuff than actually learning from them. My buddy learned Python from free YouTube videos and a $20 book and he got a job faster than me. I get that structured programs work for some people but for that money I expected way more hand holding and real world projects. Have any of you tried those cheap Udemy courses instead? I am thinking of switching to those for backend stuff.

Fair point, but Udemy courses vary a ton in quality too.
